With the millions of pounds now at stake for 3 points in a football game, why is technology used ?

Rob Styles, made a daft mistake, in theory it could cost a club millions of pounds, certainly more than the combined costs of a cricket or rugby game, yet they both use technology that only takes a minute to look at. Why are the FA etc. so slow to push for a simple referal system ?
My mistake .... Why is technology NOT used ... ?
Btw ... I dont follow any team in particular, just a fan of the game. I am not talking about all decisions, just those concerning penalties and if the ball crossed the line.

technology is needed desperately in the game as soon as possible. the only thing that i would disagree with and i think the FA should question is when to use it.

i believe we should use it like in rugby when the ref checks to see if the try should count. the other day david healy scored a goal for fulham against middlesbrough which was disallowed because the linesman and ref didnt see it cross the line, yet the commentators within less than a minute after seeing the replay could see it was clearly a goal. more time was wasted disagreeing with the decision than it would have took for an official to look at a replay and give the ref he's decision, so for those who complain that it would stop the flow of the game that proves their opinion wrong.

i would disagree with it being used in other areas though, such as to decide if theres a penalty or a dive and so on, because it would eventually get tiresome if a game was continually stopped to look at decisions, and sometimes what looks like a penalty to some people, is a great tackle to others so thats a very gray area.

if a ball crosses the line its a goal so i believe that the refs should use technology to decide these match changing decisions, to save themselves from mostly unfair criticisms
