How To Display Autographed Sports Memorabilia

People decide to collect sports memorabilia for different reasons. Some choose to collect just for fun and as an enjoyable pastime and others collect in order to make a profit by selling their pieces to other fanatical sports fans. Whatever reason you collect for, it is true to say all of your pieces are very special and valuable to you. After all you have taken all that time and effort to obtain your prized articles then it makes sense to want to present them in a fitting way. It may just be that your collection may be worth something so you should want to preserve it in the best way possible. Any damage to your collection may reduce the price of it so it is your best interest to look after it.

If you collect Autographed Sports Cards or photographs then you should keep these in a book with sheet protectors. This will protect the surface of the items from heat; water and direct sunlight which can make the signatures fade over time. You can buy a ring binder with plastic pockets to store items in but you should ensure that you purchase acid-free binders since some holders have pockets that contain a certain type of acid that may wear away the surface of the signatures.

Next you should ensure that any autographed items are kept in a safe, dry location. Any prolonged exposure to either water or heat or that has absorbed various odours will loose precious value to your collection.  

It is a good idea to use top-loader sheets to keep your autographed sports memorabilia so that all your pieces are kept safe and clean. These sheets can be custom made to house any specific items such as magazines, flyers, team yearbooks and promotional sheets that you may have collected. This is a way of making your collection available to be viewed at your pleasure and you are able to show others your collection in a safe manner. For some, collecting is all about passion and enjoyment so there is no point keeping your collection hidden away so that it can't be enjoyed just to keep it safe.

If you have been lucky enough to collect an autographed ball from a match then you will more than likely want to display it. You should keep it in a case, the best sort is an acrylic or lucite case with a removable cover so that you can get to the ball easily. You should look out for these sorts of cases at hobby shops that will specialise in displayed sports memorabilia.

In order to keep your displays looking interesting then you should try to combine your autographs with other sports memorabilia. For example, try putting a baseball card, a photograph and a flyer all in one frame. Or perhaps it might be a good idea to display your collection in a sort of scrapbook style.

If you have a ball that is signed by multiple players then it is advisable to make sure that you rotate it on a regular basis so that no one side is constantly exposed to the light as this will encourage the autograph to fade. You may want to cover the ball with a piece of material when you are not displaying it so as to protect the signatures.
